I would like to personally welcome you to the 9th Mechanical and Electromagnetic Properties of Composite Superconductors (MEM18) workshop that will be held in Andong, South Korea from June 17th to 20th, 2018. This MEM18 workshop will be an opportunity to present recent progress and development of the mechanical and electromechanical properties of LTS and HTS composite superconductors.
This workshop is organized by Prof. Hyung-Seop Shin of Andong National University, South Korea and is supported by the Korea Institute of Applied Superconductivity and Cryogenics (KIASC). Previous workshops have been held in Kyoto, Durham, Princeton, Okinawa, Aix-en Provence and Tallahassee, and they all have provided great opportunities for members to share and advance our knowledge in the field of the characterization of various composite superconductors. I hope this upcoming workshop will be an extension of the successful precedents set forth and provides you a chance to build close relationships with one another in the warm and friendly environment of Andong.
On a more technical note, the workshop will focus on the mechanical and electromechanical properties along with the characterization of practical composite superconductors for electrical device applications, especially magnets and coils.
I hope this workshop will present an opportunity for all to not only exchange and learn new information but also to fully experience the traditional and spiritual culture of Korea, offered exclusively by Andong.
Before I close, I’d like to thank each and one of you in advance for attending this conference and bringing your expertise to our gathering.
